Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was resorting to large-scale corruption in the education sector by inflating costs and favouring select companies. Citing the alleged bunker bed scam, he said tender estimates had been inflated by nearly Rs 100 crore and alleged that the government was attempting to award a Rs 1,200 crore contract to a company that had been blacklisted.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Sravan alleged that contracts were being handed over to Maharashtra and Gujarat-based firms, sidelining local small and medium enterprises that had previously supplied materials to schools. He accused the government of centralising procurement through TESCO and questioned the sharp increase in turnover criteria for companies participating in tenders.

Demanding a public debate on the issue, he said the entire process was being carried out under the supervision of a senior IAS officer. He declared that after coming to power, the BRS government would order a detailed probe into the alleged irregularities.

Sravan also raised concerns over women’s safety following the recent midnight decoy operation by Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Sumathi in Hyderabad. Calling it a sign of deteriorating law and order, he alleged that the police force was functioning under political pressure rather than focusing on public safety.
