Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The Centre for Aquatic Livelihood (CAL), in association with Kumram Bheem Organic Farmer Producing Organisation, conducted a day-long programme titled traditional seeds festival at Pedda Sakeda village in Kerameri mandal on Friday.

CAL representative Bojja Padmakar and Kendre Balaji called upon farmers to protect the land by shunning the use of harmful fertilisers and chemicals for building a healthy society. They urged farmers to take responsibility for conserving the traditional seeds inherited from their ancestors.

Dr Chetan Kumar from the ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) told the farmers to create a seed bank to carry forward traditional seeds to future generations. Experts opined that destruction of the soil would ultimately lead to destruction of the community. They called upon everyone to become partners in the collection of seeds.

Harvest Plus representative Surender, Venugopal of ICRISAT, CCD representatives Kumram Vittal Rao and Shesha Rao, Sarpanch Lachu and a large number of farmers took part in the event.
