Mancherial: A 35-year-old farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide as he was depressed over his inability to repay his mounting debts, at Royyalapalli village in Kotapalli mandal on Friday.

Kotapalli Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar said that the deceased was Omkari Gattumallu, a resident of Royyalapalli. Gattumallu resorted to the drastic step as he was disheartened by losses registered in farming. He grew cotton crop in his three acres of land and two acres rented from another farmer by availing loans. He recorded a poor yield of the crop.

Gattumallu was upset over the debts and ended his life in his agriculture field. The quantum of the loans was yet to be ascertained. He is survived by a wife and two daughters. Hanmaiah, the farmer’s father, lodged a complaint with police.

A case was registered.
