Mulugu: A farmer, who consumed pesticide on Tuesday night, died at the MGM Hospital in Warangal on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Bethelli Kumar (42) of Shivapur village of Eturnagaram mandal in the district.
Kumar had cultivated paddy in eight acres. While he owned two acres, he took six acres on lease. He harvested the paddy in six acres three days ago. He was trying to harvest the paddy in the remaining two acres, but no owner of the harvester machine was willing to take up the work since he had not paid them for harvesting six acres.
“Due to financial problems, my father could not pay the charges to the harvester owners,” said Mallika, the elder daughter of Kumar. Kumar is also reported to have borrowed Rs 3 lakh to cultivate paddy.
Depressed by the developments, he took the extreme step of ending his life by consuming pesticides near his house. He was rushed to a hospital in Eturnagaram for treatment and later shifted to MGM Hospital where he succumbed to the poison. He is survived by his wife Rani and two daughters.
