Haripriya took the drastic step since she was disheartened over the prospects of her marriage with her cousin brother.
Mancherial: A 19-year-old girl died by suicide by consuming pesticide since she was depressed over her marriage prospects at Janagama village in Kotapalli mandal on Monday.
Kotapalli Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar said the deceased was Haripriya, daughter of Madhukar and a Degree student at a college in Karimnagar. Haripriya took the drastic step since she was disheartened over the prospects of her marriage with her cousin brother. She consumed pesticide when no one was present at home. Her grandmother noticed this and alerted her parents, who in turn rushed her to a hospital in Chennur. She died while being shifted to the hospital.
It is learned that Madhukar owed Rs 2 lakh to his sister, whose son was supposed to marry Haripriya soon. A row over the loan between Madhukar and his sister cast a shadow on the marriage proposal. The teenager was upset and doubtful of her marriage with her cousin. Based on a complaint lodged by Madhukar, a case was registered and investigations were taken up.
