Hyderabad: Reiterating its demand for recruitment to 20,000 police vacancies, the Telangana Unemployed Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Tuesday warned that it would ensure Congress government’s defeat in the next assembly elections if their demands remain unmet.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Telangana Unemployed JAC leader Indra Nayak said the unemployed have been demanding the Congress government honour its own promises of two lakh vacancies within one year during the last assembly elections.

While the Congress party had assured to abolish GO 46, which mandates 95 percent of the posts to be filled by direct recruitment are reserved for local candidates in relation to each of the local areas, now neither Ministers, MLCs nor MLAs have failed to address the issue, he said.

He demanded the government release recruitment notifications to 20,000 police jobs, enhance the upper age limit for SI and constable jobs up to 38 years and 36 years respectively. He also wanted the government to fulfil its assurance of abolishing GO 46.

DSFA national president Dr. Vivek warned of large scale protests if the government fails to resolve the unemployed issues.

Pointing out that lakhs of unemployed in the State are awaiting recruitment notifications, Dr. Vivek said the government failed to move forward with a job calendar that was assured to the unemployed. He demanded that Hyderabad be declared a free zone and initiate steps to ensure fair employment opportunities for local youth.

Referring to vacancies in the police department, he said that issuing a notification for only 5,000 posts is inadequate and demanded that recruitment notifications be released for at least 20,000 police jobs.
