Demolition of shops of street vendors sparked uproar in Sangareddy

High tension prevailed at Billapur village in Sangareddy on Saturday after revenue officials demolished 31 vendor shops, citing encroached government land. Affected shop owners, claiming to hold valid land pattas, staged road blockades alongside former MLA Bhupal Reddy

Sangareddy: The demolition of several shops sparked an uproar at Billapur village on Saturday. As many as 31 street vendors were running various shops in sheds. The shop owners have claimed that they were also given pattas by revenue department in the past.

However, the revenue officials have demolished the sheds claiming that it was government land. Tension prevailed as the vendors tried to obstruct them. The vendors staged a protest blocking the road. Former MLA Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy also joined the protest. He accused the officials of taking up the demolition at the behest of MLA Patlolla Sanjeeva Reddy.
