Nirmal: Depressed over the damage of his crop by rains that lashed the district for a few days, a young farmer allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the backwaters of the Suddavagu project in Kubheer mandal on Sunday. His body was fished out later.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Puramshetti Shiva Kumar (21). Shiva Kumar resorted to the extreme step since he was upset by the damage of his vegetable crop due to the recent rains. He was in depression for the past four days and left home on Saturday night. His motorbike was spotted on the bund of the project. His parents traced the body with the help of local divers on Sunday.
He grew various vegetables in his two acres of land. He dropped out of school after completing class X and took up farming. Based on a complaint lodged by his family members, a case was registered. The investigation was on, said police.
