Desapathi Srinivas accuses Congress of ignoring farmers’ distress
BRS MLC Desapathi Srinivas accused the Congress government of ignoring farmers’ distress and mishandling the power crisis. He also questioned arrests of BRS leaders, alleged political motives and sought development of a Telangana Martyrs’ Colony in Hyderabad or Fourth City.
Hyderabad: BRS MLC and Legislative Council whip Desapathi Srinivas accused the Congress government of ignoring farmers’ distress and failing to address the power crisis in Telangana. He said farmers were staging protests outside power stations and blocking national highways as crops withered for want of electricity, but the government remained indifferent to their problems.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan, Srinivas criticised the government over the arrest of BRS leaders, alleging that police were being used against the Opposition. He questioned the arrests in connection with flexi banners outside Medicover Hospital and asked why similar action was not taken against those who installed banners targeting BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence at Erravelli.
He said while the courts were rejecting remand applications in cases against BRS leaders, the Congress was running an authoritarian administration and arresting BRS leaders with political motives to prevent them from questioning the government on people’s issues and its failures.
Stating that the Congress had achieved little in nearly three years, the BRS MLC criticised its handling of law and order and other departments. He also alleged that projects around KBR Park were being cancelled to protect the interests of the Chief Minister’s associates.
He demanded that the Telangana Martyrs’ Colony for the families of martyrs, which Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had proposed for construction near Markook, instead be developed in Hyderabad or the proposed Fourth City if the government was genuinely committed to honouring Telangana martyrs.
