A woman appeals officials not to acquire their land in Rangareddy on Saturday.
HYDERABAD: Turning a blind eye to farmers’ appeals and protests against acquisition of their lands, the State government is continuing land surveys in different mandals of Rangareddy.
For the last many days, farmers in Kandukur, Yacharam, Gajulaburj Thanda, Agarmiyaguda and neighbouring villages in Rangareddy district have been protesting against the land acquisition for laying roads to the proposed Fourth City.
A video of a tribal woman farmer crying inconsolably and pleading with the officials not to acquire lands is going viral. In the video, a group of officials and police personnel are seen passing through agricultural lands and the woman farmer from Marlakunta village is appealing to the officials to spare her lands.
“Do not take our lands. We eke out our livelihood from cultivating these lands, please spare our lands,” the woman pleads to the officials. Unmindful, the officials and police continue to walk.
People from different sections were moved by the plight of the woman farmer’s appeal and wanted the government to exclude agricultural lands from acquisition.
Yadaiah Munnooru, an X user said “Very pathetic. Agricultural lands must be excluded from land acquisition as far as possible. At the cost of development, fertile lands are vanishing and livelihood is taken away. If inevitable we have to opt for flyovers as followed by China,”
