Hyderabad: The State government has initiated action against those behind the destruction of the Khajaguda rocks and also against alleged encroachment in the area.
Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar tweeted on Thursday saying the issue was examined and action initiated. A First Information Report was registered against four persons for encroaching and destroying in Survey No 452/1 & 454/1 of Puppalaguda village while the Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) was suspended for dereliction of duty.
This apart, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had placed six security guards to guard the rock formations and the area round the clock.
“We will protect,” assured Arvind Kumar, tweeting about the action taken in response to an earlier tweet from Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao asking the Special Chief Secretary to enquire into the issue.
The issue of destruction of the Khajaguda rocks were brought to the notice of the Minister by the Society to Save Rocks and others, who pointed out that the Khajaguda Hills, which they said were of heritage value, were disappearing due to rampant encroachment and rock mining.
