Karimnagar: Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar urged the Dalits in the State to develop their economic status by utilising Dalit Bandhu scheme in a proper way. He participated in the Dalit Bandhu awareness meeting for Karimnagar constituency held in Karimnagar MPDO office here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar informed that the State government was introducing a number of schemes for the welfare of all sections of the society. Terming Dr BR Ambedkar as the property of the nation, he wanted people not to confine him to a particular caste or group and emphasised the need to fulfill the aspirations of Ambedkar. A number of people had strove for equality and equal social structure, he informed.

“In the US, only farmers and teachers would be called ‘sir’ and all the remaining people would be treated equally. With a concept that Dalits and BCs should not remain economically backward, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced various welfare schemes for the upliftment of those communities,” he said.

An amount of Rs 10 lakh would be deposited in the bank accounts of Dalit Bandhu beneficiaries without involvement of banks. The scheme was introduced in Huzurabad constituency on the pilot basis. Instead of choosing similar units, beneficiaries should select different units to avoid competition and get more profits. Beneficiaries should plan their businesses to double the Rs 10 lakh amount by the next year, he advised. While Rs 9.90 lakh would be deposited in the bank accounts of beneficiaries and the remaining Rs 10,000 would be deposited in Dalit-Rakshana-Nidhi.

The Minister warned stern action if any beneficiary sold their units and advised them not to believe in the middlemen. He also warned to take legal action against the people who would dupe the SCs by promising to sanction the Dalit Bandhu scheme.

Collector RV Karnan, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao, RDO Anand Kumar, ZPTCs, MPTCs and others participated in the meeting.
