Khammam: A large number of development works launched during the previous BRS regime came to standstill due to lack of supervision by officials and alleged negligence of elected members.

The works have been launched with funds from Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA) and Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) under the limits of SUDA and KMC.

Speaking to Telangana Today former SUDA chairman B Vijay Kumar informed that as many as 170 CC roads have been proposed to be laid in all the municipal divisions with Rs 100 crore funds from KMC and Rs 20 crore funds from SUDA.

Tenders have been called and works handed over to respective contractors but the works are not yet complete. The Congress leaders are halting ongoing development works for their own political interests fearing that the BRS might get mileage if the works are completed, he complained.

Similarly, the works of a five kilometre 60 feet width CC road from Eenadu office to Puttakota in 15th municipal division has been stopped for reasons unknown. The road construction taken up with Rs 20 crore halted after fifty percent works have been completed.

The works of a three kilometre CC road from Koyachelaka to SUDA Park taken up with Rs 8 crore are also left incomplete. Central lighting and road divider works are yet to be taken up, Vijay Kumar noted.

Khammam MLA, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who could not get a single rupee sanctioned for the development of Khammam city after he was elected, has even failed to monitor the progress of works and expedite them, he alleged.
Vijay Kumar said that the Congress government is not in a position to appoint a chairman for SUDA even after eleven months passed since the party came to power in the State.

Appointing the chairman to the authority is delayed as the three ministers, Bhatti Vikramarka, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao are trying to get an upper hand in filling the post, he noted.

In addition to that the layout committee meeting which is supposed to be held every month to approve the layouts is not being conducted regularly. It is causing distress among the real estate developers as they are forced to suffer financial losses, Vijay Kumar added.
