Khammam: Large numbers of devotees were attending the four-day annual feast of Karunagiri Shrine in Khammam city.

The festivities commenced on a grand note on Thursday with Khammam diocese Bishop Dr. Sagili Prakash hoisting the flag. The Bishop said that Karunagiri Mahotsavam has a special place and importance in the two Telugu states. Jesus Christ preached the path of life to everyone and it guides all to prosper in the world with love, kindness, compassion and peace, he said.

On Friday international evangelist Father Benny of Eluru Divine Word Retreat Centre delivered a spiritual discourse. He said even if there were hardships and dangers, faith in God would deliver the believers. If there was no faith in god, all human labour and efforts would be in vain.

Karunagiri director Mathew Varaprasad Raju said the festival was being organised with spiritual splendor for four days and would conclude on March 2. Religious leaders from various areas, nuns, believers and organisers of various committees participated. Khammam North Parish Church choir rendered devotional songs.
