Khammam: Director General of Police (DGP) M Mahender Reddy has consoled A Uday Kiran, son of Ambadipudi Mariyamma, who died in the custody of Addagudur police of Yadadri-Bhongir district recently. Mariamma belongs to Komatlagudem village of Chintakani mandal in the district.

The DGP paid a visit to a private hospital here on Sunday where Kiran was being treated for the injuries allegedly inflicted by the police during an investigation related to a theft case a few days ago.

He interacted with Kiran and enquired about the incident while assuring that the State government would extend all support to his family. The DGP visited the hospital following the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who took the incident seriously and directed the DGP to take stringent action against the police personnel involved in the incident.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mahender Reddy said he was pained at the custodial death of Mariamma even as the Telangana police were known for people-friendly policing. Steps would be taken to prevent reccurrence of such incidents in the future, he assured.
