Hyderabad: Indian cueists enjoyed mixed luck on the second day of the IBSF World Snooker Championships. While Dhvaj Haria and Paras Gupta were one win away from making the final stage, Malkeet Singh and Hussian Khan bowed out of the first of the two-event first-stage competition here on Tuesday.
Haria, known more for his billiards prowess, outplayed Sweden’s Suleman Salam 4-0 in the second round. In the first round late on Monday night, the tall southpaw proved too strong for the hapless Badr Abdulla Sharshani of Qatar, scoring a crushing 4-0 win. He had runs of 108 in the third frame and 80 in the fourth.
In the pre-quarters, Haria will take on Malaysia’s Thor Chuan Leong later in the evening. Gupta, meanwhile, set up a last-16 meeting with Pakistan’s Shahid Aftab. The Indian, who got a bye in the first round, wasted little time in disposing of the dangerous Michal Kotiuk of Poland 4-0.
