Visakhapatnam: The Dhwajasthambham – flag pole – of Sri Sitaramaalayam in the Simhachalam temple premises collapsed on Wednesday morning.
CCTV footage showed that the flagpole, a huge log of wood wrapped in sheets of copper, collapse around 6.30 a.m..The flagpole, erected about six decades ago, fell as it was infested by termites, officials said.
The temple priests immediately erected a temporary bamboo flagstaff to serve as flagpole, and a permanent Dhwajasthambam would be arranged within ten days, executive officer of Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple of Simhachalam, M.V. Suryakala said.
