Hyderabad: “Allu Arjun is a film actor. Did he fight any India-Pakistan war on the border and win it for India? He made a movie, minted money and went home”, that was how Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy commented when he was queried about the arrest of the actor of the blockbuster movie Pushpa-2.

Revanth Reddy sought to project a tough image of himself by maintaining that the constitution was the same for all people, arguing that the actor had not won any war for India but made money through movies. He was responding to a pointed question during an interview aired on a national TV channel Aaj Tak on Friday.

He admitted that his government had permitted the benefit show of Pushpa 2 and claimed that the “actor arrived at the theatre and waved at the people” leading to a stampede. Eventually, a woman died and her nine-year-old boy was hospitalised.

Police had booked a case against the theatre management and others, including Allu Arjun. “Our government was concerned about the ‘crime’, irrespective of whether a film actor or political actor was involved”, he stressed.

Had Allu Arjun watched the movie in the theatre and left, things would have been under control but the situation slipped out of control after the actor waved at the people and fans from the top of his car. That was why he was not booked as accused 1 and but as accused 11 in the case, he pointed out.

On opposition charges that Allu Arjun was booked just because he had failed to remember Revanth Reddy’s name at Pushpa 2 success meet, the Chief Minister defended saying the actor knew him from long time.

“Infact, the actor’s father-in-law Chandrashekhar Reddy is a Congress leader and my relative. His uncle film actor Chiranjeevi is also a Congress leader,” Revanth Reddy said, stressing that police had just done its job. Replying to a query on his favourite actor, the Chief Minister said it was late Tollywood actor Krishna.

“I am now a political star and there should be fans for me,” Revanth Reddy said, warning that if protests were staged without permissions, people would be jailed, in an indication towards Allu Arjun’s fans.
