Hyderabad: In a major development, Amazon Prime Video has officially cancelled Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian version of the global spy franchise, which starred Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The show will not return for a second season.
Amazon MGM Studios announced that storylines from Citadel: Honey Bunny and the Italian spinoff Citadel: Diana will now be merged into Season 2 of the main American series led by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The decision comes after both international versions failed to make the global impact Amazon had hoped for, despite receiving decent reviews in their local markets.
Originally created by the Russo Brothers as a massive international franchise, Citadel has faced multiple setbacks—from a bloated budget of over $200 million to behind-the-scenes issues like reshoots and crew walkouts.
Season 2 of the main series is currently in post-production and is expected to release in 2026. Meanwhile, plans for new spinoffs in regions like Mexico are also reportedly on hold.
It is still unclear whether Samantha Ruth Prabhu will appear in the main American series.
