Hyderabad: Racing towards the goal of one lakh 2BHK houses in Greater Hyderabad as envisioned by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the GHMC now has over 70,000 houses in the final stages of construction. Stating that work was progressing fast on these houses, which would soon be handed over to the beneficiaries, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said on Saturday that a total of one lakh houses were being built at an estimated cost of Rs 9,700 crore.
Speaking after inaugurating the 2BHK Housing Colony comprising 288 houses at Pilligudiselu near Chanchalguda, Rao said this was the 22nd site in Hyderabad that has been inaugurated so far. “Works pertaining to 70,000 houses are in the final stages. There was a bit of delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but even those houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries soon and the government will continue to stand by the poor,” he said. Before the formation of Telangana, even when two parties ruled the State for 65 years to 70 years, only three government hospitals were built in Hyderabad, he said.
“Since Telangana was formed, the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) Hospital in Gachibowli was constructed and is already operational. Three more TIMS, ie., at the Chest Hospital Sanath Nagar, Alwal and Gaddiannaram, will come up in a year or two,” he said, adding that all four sides of the city would have TIMS hospitals.
Chanchalguda Prison to be shifted?
Hyderabad: Responding positively to a request made by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi to shift the Chanchalguda Prison to the city outskirts, the Minister said a similar project was taken up by the State government in Warangal, where a 33-storied hospital was being constructed where the jail earlier existed.
“The Chanchalguda jail is spread over 34 acres and the MP has requested to shift the jail and build amenities for people. It can be an educational institution or an IT park,” the Minister said, adding that he, along with the Home Minister, would put forward the request before the Chief Minister.
“When it comes to development or providing amenities for people, the Telangana government never steps back,” he said. Owaisi also asked the Minister to sanction Rs 500 crore for the renovation of the Osmania General Hospital.
