Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan Kumar demanded that Young India Skills University (YISU) disclose its Board of Governors’ approval and due-diligence reports for the proposed takeover of the State’s polytechnic education under G.O. Ms. No. 97. He sought release of the dates, minutes, attendance and resolutions of any Board meeting that authorised the merger, besides complete financial, infrastructure and due-diligence reports.

In an open letter to YISU Board of Governors chairman Anand Mahindra on Friday, Sravan questioned whether the Board had formally approved the decision to bring the State’s network of polytechnics, Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under YISU. He asked for the rationale behind transferring an ecosystem catering to more than one lakh students to YISU, which currently has around 1,000 students and operates from a transit facility at IIIT-Hyderabad while its permanent campus is under construction.

He also sought to know details of the alleged diversion of a Rs 3,000-crore technical education modernisation plan being undertaken with IIT-Hyderabad, covering areas such as semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing, aircraft maintenance and robotics.

Sravan said the government should clarify the impact of the move on ECET eligibility, B.Tech lateral entry, diploma certification, fee structures, reservations, scholarships and the service conditions of teaching and non-teaching staff. He demanded that safeguards for reservations, fees, scholarships and lateral-entry rights be placed in the public domain before implementation.

The BRS MLC also condemned the police action against protesting polytechnic students in Mahabubabad and alleged that an officer grabbed two students by their throats during the crackdown. He said such a major restructuring of technical education should be discussed in the Assembly and referred to statutory scrutiny and democratic consultation rather than being implemented through an executive order.
