Suryapet: A special ritual Dishti Pooja, that is conducted 14 days before the commencement of the bi-annual religious fete of the famous Lingamanthula Swamy jatara, was performed at Peddagattu at midnight on Sunday.

Lingamanthula Swamy jatara, popularly known as Peddagattu jatara or Durajpalli jatara, is the second biggest annual religious fete in Telangana State after Sammakka Sarakka jatra.

The auspicious box ‘Deverapette’ which contains the idols of Lord Lingamanthula Swamy and goddess Chowdamma, was brought to the temple on Peddagattu hillock from Cheekataipalem village of Thorrur mandal in Mahaboobabad district at midnight on Sunday and dishti pooja was performed by Yadav priests at the temple.

After completion of dishti pooja, the divine box was shifted to the house of Menthebonia family at Keesram village, about 10 km away from Peddagattu. Yadav priests perform pooja to the divine box daily for 14 days and bring it to Lingamanthula Swamy temple on the first day of jatara on February 28.

A large number of devotees wearing traditional dresses participated in the procession taken out to welcome the divine box.
