Hyderabad: A day after Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy was appointed as the new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), dissidence surfaced in the party with Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy accusing the party leadership of selling the key post.
“The new TPCC postings were made similar to the cash-for-vote case by the new AICC in-charge. There is evidence and I came to know about this only after reaching New Delhi,” the Congress MP said while speaking to mediapersons at Shamshabad airport.
He said that he would discuss his political future with party activists and only time will decide any development. Congratulating the newly appointed TPCC members, he appealed to the new party leadership to get the election deposits in the forthcoming Huzurabad by-elections.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy further said that a few newly appointed TPCC members were trying to meet him personally and wanted them to shelve their plans as it would send a wrong message to Congress party workers. “I appeal to the new TPCC members and those who joined the Congress from Telugu Desam Party not to meet me,” said Venkat Reddy.
Expressing discontent, the Bhongir MP said he would not step into Gandhi Bhavan anymore and charged that it would definitely transform into Telangana TDP office.
Refusing to comment on AICC president Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi over the developments in the State Congress, the Congress MP said, “I will not make any comments on the leaders who offered Telangana.”
There was no recognition for loyal workers in the party and the cadre was completely disturbed, he said adding that “Many party workers are in a dilemma that when injustice was meted out to senior and loyal leader like Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, what would be their fate.”
“I will hold ‘padayatra’ from Ibrahimpatnam to Bhongir from Monday onwards. I will be among people and promote new activists,” said the MP, stating that he would strive for victory in the seven constituencies in erstwhile Nalgonda district.
M Shashidhar Reddy quits
Meanwhile, former Minister M Shashidhar Reddy on Sunday resigned as the chairman of Telangana PCC Election Commission Coordination Committee and sent a resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“I am submitting my resignation as Chairman of the TPCC Election Committee Coordination Committee. I am doing this to give a free hand, in all fairness, to the new PCC President A. Revanth Reddy to reconstitute it,” said Shashidhar Reddy, adding that, “Congress party’s interest will, as always, remain at the centre of whatever I continue to do as a Congressman”.
aWhen asked about the comments made by Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Marri Shashidhar Reddy said individual opinions were bound to be there in the party. However, the new TPCC post should have been given to leaders who were loyal to the party since long.”
