Hyderabad: A distinguished historian, academic and writer MGS Narayan passed away at his house i Kozhikode on Saturday. He was suffering from age related issues and was ailing for a while. He was 93.

MGS Narayanan had an exemplary career as a historian and as a great teacher and was the member secretary and chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), He was the head of the department of Calicut University from 1976 to 1990.


He was born in Ponnani near here on August 20, 1932. His notable works were Cultural Symbiosis in Kerala (1972); Perumals of Kerala (1972); Calicut: The City of Truth Revisited (2006).  He left a deep imprint on the field of Indian historiography.

Narayanan carved out a niche for himself in academic understanding of Kerala’s ancient past.

Prof. P.Chenna Reddy , Vice President of World History Congress, Pudhucherry, Former Director of Erstwhile A P State Archaeology and Museums condoled his death. In a press release here on Saturday, Reddy recalled the yeoman services of MGS Narayan.
