Hyderabad: The Mailardevpally – DMRL cross-roads is becoming a death trap for motorists’ particular two-wheeler riders. In last three days, four people including a child lost their lives and three others suffered injuries.

The road is a six-lane stretch with two flyovers at Chandrayangutta and Phisalbanda junction. The 100 feet wide road with very little road safety measures is now having fatal accidents reported every week on the nearly 9 km stretch.

“Street lights are not functional at many points on the stretch which is dotted with potholes and craters. Due to this, accidents are taking place on regular basis,” complained Mohd Abdul Samad, an IT employee and resident of Gulshan Iqbal Colony.

Along DMRL junction to Hafeez Babanagar, street lights are non-functional at many points. Also at places with ‘u-turns’, the authorities need to provide extra illumination.

“Due to unscientific u-turns, the traffic slows down and there is always fear of big vehicles ramming into two wheelers and cars,” said Syed Moize, a resident of Riyatsatnagar.

The situation is bad from Bandlaguda cross-roads to Palle Cheruvu junction. “A wide portion of the stretch remains muddy and there are no road safety measures to check for speed or rash driving. Also wrong side driving in rampant on this curled stretch,” Naser Ahmed, a local resident of Jahangirabad, said.

The spot near Vikas High School at Babanagar claimed two lives on Saturday night. In recent days, accidents with people getting injured have been common, locals point out. “Police say they take immediate measures at such dark spots. Tell me what they are doing when everyday one or two accidents are occurring here,” asked Faheemuddin, a local resident.

Local GHMC corporator, Abdul Wahad said the road near Vikas High School was dug for nala works and after completion, the road will be restored.
