Hyderabad: BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar here on Wednesday advised the ruling party leaders not to make the paddy procurement an issue.

“It’s not an issue between two parties but an issue of farmers who are facing problems because of the delay in procuring paddy,” he said while addressing a press conference here.

“In case of any problem, both of them can discuss and resolve it in the larger interest of farmers,” he said, adding that the BJP was fighting on behalf of farmers to bring the problems being faced by them to the notice of the State government.

He said the party would continue its fight till the assurances given by the government was fulfilled and added that the Centre was purchasing 50 per cent of the rice produced in the country from Telangana only.

“Why is Telangana only facing problems on procurement issue when there is no such issue in other States?” he asked.

Demanding the State government purchase paddy from farmers, Sanjay took strong exception to the highhandedness of the police towards the BJP activists during his two-day visit to the procurement centres in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts.

In front of the police, some persons damaged the vehicle of senior BJP leader Ramachander Rao’s son and tried to attack him. “No one can scare us. We will continue to fight on behalf of the people,” he said, alleging that there is no people-friendly policing in the State.

“Like West Bengal, we are winning 88 seats in the next elections,” Sanjay added.
