Doctor airlifted from Lucknow to KIMS Secunderabad for lung transplant

Dr Sharda Suman has been airlifted to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad for lung transplantation surgery.
Hyderabad: A woman resident doctor from Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow has been airlifted to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad for lung transplantation surgery.
Dr Sharda Suman, a PG resident from gynecology wing of RMLIMS, who was 32 weeks into pregnancy, had tested Covid positive on April 14. Her health condition deteriorated severely and she was put on a ventilator and an emergency C-section surgery was done on May 1 to save the infant.
After the delivery, Dr Suman was put on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), which does the job of lungs and heart, but her condition did not improve. The Director of RMLIMS, Dr Sonia Nityanand constituted a three-member committee, which recommended that Dr Suman should undergo a lung transplant.
As her family is not in a position to afford the lung transplant costs, Dr Sonia personally met the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath and explained the situation, and he immediately sanctioned Rs.1.50 crore required for the procedure.
After consulting hospitals in Hyderabad and Chennai, they finally decided to undergo the transplant procedure at KIMS hospitals. Dr Sharda arrived at KIMS hospitals through air ambulance and a green corridor was formed with the help of Hyderabad Police to bring the patient to the hospital without any delay.
