Hyderabad: A tumour weighing about 3 kg in the uterus of a woman was removed by surgeons from city-based Renovo Hospitals. The woman had developed pain in the abdomen, backache with huge abdominal mass and imaging tests revealed that she had a huge tumour in the uterus.
According to senior obstetrician and gynaecologist from the hospital, Dr Raja Shree, the woman had a history of cervical cancer and about 15 years ago underwent treatment for it. The senior gynaecologist collaborated with hospital’s surgical oncologist, Dr Sanjay to successfully perform hysterectomy i.e. surgical removal of the uterus.
“Hysterectomy i.e. the uterus with tumour with tubes and ovaries on both sides, weighing about 3 kg, were removed and the specimens were sent for histopathological examination,” the surgeons in a press release said.
“Such large tumours in the uterus are rare. Proper diagnosis and subsequent removal without any traces is risky. The team of surgeons managed to perform the surgery well and the patient has recovered,” Dr Raja Shree said.
