Karimnagar: Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Tuesday said no government had the right to play with the lives of people. “People elect governments with great expectations and governments should also honour their aspirations,” the Minister observed.
Participating in a dharna in Huzurabad organised as part of Bharat bandh observed by farmers in protest against the Union government’s anti-farmers’ laws, the Minister said people gave the BJP a complete mandate to lead the country and taking advantage it, the Union government has been introducing Bills as per its whims and fancies and in the process, compromising the interests of people especially farmers.
Enraged over anti-farmers Acts, farmers were agitating in Delhi despite bone-biting cold weather. Union government had tried to disturb agitation by using police force and water cannons. However, farmers were continuing their protest with a single point agenda to abolish anti-farmer Acts.
It was not possible for the government to threaten farmers by using police force. Delhi people were also extending their support to farmers by providing food, water and blankets. More interesting thing is that farmers managed to get support from foreign countries such as America, the UK and others.
A committee working under the Union government would fix the minimum support price (MSP) to various crops and it was the responsibility of the government to implement MSP across the country. However, the Center has no mechanism to monitor whether MSP is being provided to farmers while purchasing crops.
Farmers from Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra are bringing paddy and maize respectively to Telangana as they were not getting MSP to crops in their States, he said.
If equal MSP is being provided to crops across the country, why would farmers from Chhattisgarh and Maharastra bring their produce to Telangana State, he questioned.
