Hyderabad: Prof Srinivasarao Yaragorla, a synthetic organic chemist at the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been elected as a Fellow of two prestigious academic bodies – the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and the Telangana Academy of Sciences (FTAS).
Dr Yaragorla’s research areas include synthetic organic chemistry: developing new reactions utilising π-activated alcohols, multi-component reactions, C-H functionalisation, and mechanochemistry. His research focus is on catalysis, strain-induced reactivity of cyclopropanes, and synthesis of biologically important molecules. He has over 90 research papers in reputed journals, including recent notable publications on calcium-catalyzed reactions and trifluoromethylation chemistry.
After obtaining a Master’s in Chemistry from the University of Hyderabad, Dr Yaragorla joined Dr Srivari Chandrasekhar’s research group at IICT-Hyderabad, did a couple of Postdocs from the University of Minnesota, USA (Prof R Muthyala) and the University of Hyderabad (Prof Goverdhan Mehta). Before joining UoH as a faculty, he served at the Central University of Rajasthan for 5 years.
