Hyderabad: The story of Drishyam 2 begins where it actually ended — Georgekutty, played by Mohanlal, his wife Rani (Meena) and their children take every step cautiously after being suspected of murdering Varun, son of Inspector Geetha Prabhakar.
Drishyam 2 is a sequel to the Jeethu Joseph directorial Drishyam that came eight years ago and was a blockbuster hit and remade in Telugu and in Hindi. An intriguing plot, Drishyam was an engaging watch right from the word go, from the first frame till the end.
The Malayalam sequel which was released on Friday on Amazon Prime Video, tells the story how Georgekutty’s family prepare amidst growing suspicion of police investigation and villagers who don’t want to let the incident fade away into the history.
The story starts off with the drama of how the family cope with police brutality and the trauma they have been undergoing since the day when Varun was bludgeoned to death in their five-acre residential farmland.
How Georgekutty and family manages to escape from the clutches of police is the crux of the story. Every time the police personnel passes over the house, it rattles them with constant fear.
A genuine attempt to tell the story, director Jeethu Joseph toiled for five years to bring proper shape to Drishyam 2. The story, although appears to be a tad slow compared to the first part, some of the thrilling elements during the process would surely entertain audiences.
Georgekutty who is shown as a cable TV service provider in the first part, is now portrayed as theatre owner in Drishyam 2. Mohanlal’s flawless performance makes the movie romp home with pride as he, yet again, impresses audiences while shouldering responsibility as a husband/caring father thus managing to keep the police at bay.
