Hyderabad:: The driver of former Endowments Minister Konda Surekha’s former OSD, Sumanth, was arrested by the police on Sunday in connection with an alleged assault and extortion case. The driver was taken into custody near Sumanth’s residence in Tellapur.
The case was registered after a real estate businessman made a complaint alleging that he was attacked with iron rods and threatened by a group of persons. He further alleged that the suspects demanded Rs.10 crore from him.
Based on the complaint, police booked Sumanth along with five others — Prashanth, Ramu, Karthik, Arun Kumar Reddy and Mahender Reddy — under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police officials are investigating the allegations and are collecting further details regarding the incident. The arrest of the driver is part of the ongoing probe into the alleged assault and extortion attempt, police sources said.
