Hyderabad: A trip to the hilltop shrine at Malkajgiri is promising to get all the better soon.

The driveway to the Koh-e-Moula Ali shrine at Malkajgiri is expected to be completed by the year-end. Authorities are constructing a ramp (driveway) at the centuries-old place of religious significance to facilitate vehicles reach the hilltop without much hassle. If not for the driveway, visitors have to climb 550 steps to reach the shrine.

The State government had sanctioned the rampway back in 2014 and the foundation stone was laid the same year. The authorities completed the first phase of the ramp works in 2017 covering a distance of 230 steps. A budget of Rs 20 crore was allocated for the second and final phase of works which began last year.

“Works on the second phase are going on. It is to be executed carefully as there is a religious place on one side and an urban area on the other side of the hill. Hasty work will result in conflict resulting in a slowdown of the work,” an official said.

After the completion of the second phase of the works, the visitors can drive upto the hilltop where a big parking space is being created.

“Visitors especially women and elderly faced problems in reaching the hilltop shrine. So, a proposal was made for the construction of a ramp and it was sanctioned. On completion of the works, it will benefit a large number of visitors,” AIMIM Member of Legislative Council Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi said.

Arrangements for parking of about 50 cars and 250 two-wheelers are planned. The Moula Ali Dargah and Ashoorkhana date back to the time of Ibrahim Qutb Shah who ruled between 1565 and 1580 AD.
