Hyderabad: Drone surveillance launched under the supervision of Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi has intensified monitoring of troublemakers, anti-social elements and suspected offenders across the Commissionerate.

Police are using drones during night hours to monitor deserted areas, narrow lanes and identified crime hotspots where people allegedly gather to drink in public, consume intoxicants or create a nuisance.

According to police officials, suspicious movements are being recorded through photographs and videos, which are being used as evidence for further action. Police said the drone-based surveillance has so far resulted in 70 cases being registered. Courts have reportedly imposed jail terms, hefty fines and community service on several offenders based on evidence collected during drone patrols.

Officials said the surveillance will be intensified in the coming days. Police also plan to monitor businesses that violate prescribed operating hours and allegedly contribute to disturbances or law-and-order issues.
