Sangareddy: Residents of Fasalwadi near Sangareddy on Thursday morning obstructed vehicles transporting garbage to the dump yard located near their village, intensifying their longstanding protest against the facility.
The villagers have repeatedly urged Sangareddy municipal authorities to relocate the dump yard, citing serious pollution concerns. They allege that contaminated water seeping from the garbage has been polluting their agricultural fields. The persistent foul smell has also led to frequent health issues, they said.
The situation has worsened with the recent heavy rains, turning the area around the dump yard into a breeding ground for disease and stray animals. Villagers complained that over 150 stray dogs have made the dump yard their habitat and have been attacking locals.
Tempers flared on Thursday when residents blocked the approach road to the dump yard. Civic officials who rushed to the spot managed to pacify the protesters and assured them that steps would be taken to address their concerns, requesting some more time to act.
