Duo nabbed for Rs 1.9 crore WhatsApp scam in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Cybercrime police arrested two individuals, Ajay Sahu from Madhya Pradesh and Vaishna from Uttar Pradesh, for impersonating a company executive and cheating an employee of Rs 1.9 crore.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime police arrested Ajay Sahu from Madhya Pradesh and Vaishna from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly impersonating a senior official from the management of a company and cheating an employee to the tune of Rs 1.9 crore on Friday.

Police said the duo contacted the complainant over WhatsApp with the display picture of his superior at the office and asked him to transfer the amount for a new project.

Believing the message to be genuine and from his Managing Director, the victim transferred the said amount to the provided account. After that he realised that it was a fraud and approached the police.
