Hyderabad: The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for river valley and hydroelectric projects on Monday deferred the proposals submitted by the Andhra Pradesh government seeking amendments to the existing Environmental Clearances granted by Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to Srisailam Right Branch Canal and Telugu Ganga Project in order to include the proposed Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.
The Andhra Pradesh government submitted clarifications over the issues raised by the EAC at its 13th meeting. The Committee, however, was not satisfied with it and sought more clarifications.
The EAC sought a holistic report on water availability in the river, with the existing and future schemes including hydro-power projects as envisaged in an approved Master plan of the river developments. Further, it suggested a study showing the pre- and post-project temporal simulations of drawal of water from the reservoir.
The Committee also sought detailed status of other similar water lifting projects in the region/neighboring States along with status of environmental clearance. It wanted the AP government to submit details pertaining to the locations of any wildlife sanctuary, reserved forest area and other ecological habitats which are likely to be affected by the reduced levels in the reservoir post construction of the project.
