Warangal: Reiterating the State government’s commitment to encourage the sports talent, Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud said that one stadium in each of the districts would come up the State.
“While 60 indoor stadiums were sanctioned, some of them were already completed and the construction of other stadia is at different stages,” he added.
The Minister declared opened the 60th National Open Athletics Championship (NOAC)-2021 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) at Hanamkonda here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, Goud said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who had firstly focused on the development of the priority sectors like irrigation facilities, health and educational institutions after the formation of the Telangana state besides implementing many ambitious welfare schemes for the benefit of the people has now shifted his focused on the development of sports and tourism in the State with a view to producing sportspersons who can raise achieve name for India by winning medals in international competitions.
“Even many small countries in the world are performing well at the Olympics and other international sports events by winning medals. But our country’s performance is poor. In view of this, our visionary Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is planning to develop the sports infrastructure in the State to encourage the local sports talent. The previous governments have completely neglected the sports in the united Andhra Pradesh. However, we are organizing a national level competition in this historic city of Warangal,” the Sports Minister said, adding that Rs 50 had been sanctioned to organise the NOAC-2021.
“The State government is also planning to set up sports academies in each district as it had helped many national and international players to set up their academies in Hyderabad,” Goud said, adding that one more national level event would be organised at the same venue in Hanamkonda.
Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that they were feeling proud to organise a national level sports event in Warangal. He also appealed to the sports experts and physical directors to submit a report to the government to improve the sports facilities and encourage the youth in sports.
Warangal West MLA and chairman of Organising Committee of the NOAC-2021, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had impressed upon the Centre to sanction the funds required for laying the synthetic track which helped to organise the NOAC-2021.
“Due to the efforts of the visionary Chief Minister, Warangal would soon become the sports hub too,” he added.
Vinay Bhaskar also promised that they would try to organise an event every month in the same venue for the benefit of the sportspersons. He also lauded Warangal Athletic Association president Errabelli Varada Rajeshwar Rao and others for their efforts to get the permission to conduct the NOAC-2021.
