Between June 1 and 11, the average rainfall in the State was 72.9 mm against the normal rainfall of 28.8 mm. This is a deviation of 153 per cent from normal rainfall. “This is not a strange phenomenon. Last year too, rains hit the State a bit early and this year too the monsoon has arrived right on time. Usually, rains occur after June 15 in the State but since last couple of years, there has been slight advancement in the onset of monsoon,” Telangana State Planning and Development Society (TSPDS) Executive Officer Ramakrishna said.
Since June 1 to 10, 28 districts and 407 mandals have recorded 60 percent large or excess rainfall, he said adding that this helps farmers in commencing sowing operations for Vanakalam season.
Apart from seasonal weather, the depression in Bay of Bengal is also aiding in rains lashing the State, he added.
More importantly, more rains are expected to occur during the next three days. According to TSPDS, light to moderate rains or thunderstorms are expected at many places with heavy rain at isolated places mainly over Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadraddri, Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural and urban upto Saturday.
Thereafter, light to moderate rains or thunderstorms are expected at many places and heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places mainly over Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem, Nirmal, Jagityal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar, Mulugu, Bhadraddri, Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal Rural and urban areas during the next two days.
