Early detection key to controlling cancer, says Padma Shri awardee Dr Vijay Anand Reddy

Prof Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Head of Apollo Cancer Hospitals and Padma Shri awardee, emphasised the importance of early detection in controlling cancer while speaking at a felicitation organised by Telangana Medhavula Forum.

Hyderabad: Cancer specialist and Head of Apollo Cancer Hospitals, Prof Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, on Friday stressed the need for early detection of cancers, which goes a long way in eradicating cancers.

Speaking at a function organised by Telangana Medhavula Forum (Inter Intellectual Forum) to felicitate him, the cancer specialist, who recently received the Padma Shri award, urged people to look for symptoms like recurrent fever at night, loss of appetite, persistent pain, skin changes, particularly changes in the shape and size of moles or the appearance of new moles, which could be warning signs of cancer.

Smoking and tobacco consumption significantly increase the risk of cancers of the lungs, oesophagus, pancreas, and oral cavity. Foods high in fat and sugar increase the risk of various types of cancer, he said. To prevent cancer, he advised people to engage in regular exercise, practicing yoga and meditation, walking regularly, and consuming leafy vegetables and fruits.

Telangana Medhavula Forum state president, Dr. Raj Narayan Mudiraj felicitated Dr Vijay Anand Reddy, press release said.
