Kothagudem: Early diagnosis could help prevent sudden deaths caused by heart diseases, said noted interventional cardiologist Dr Surya Prakasa Rao Vithala of CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

He coordinated a free mega cardiac health camp organised by CARE Hospitals in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kothagudem chapter at the KCOA Club here. The camp marked Dr Surya Prakasa Rao’s 30 years of service in the Kothagudem area.

The camp aimed to screen patients showing symptoms of heart ailments so they could be treated in the early stages, as many patients were dying before reaching hospitals. “There is a high incidence of heart ailments in the Kothagudem area,” he said.

Nearly 500 patients from across the district underwent free tests, including ECG, 2D echo, and blood tests for lipid profiles. A team of doctors from CARE Hospitals examined the patients.

District Collector Jitesh V Patil, SP B Rohith Raju, MLAs Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, Dr Tellam Venkat Rao and Ramdas Naik lauded Dr Surya Prakasa Rao’s services in the region and for conducting the free camp.

Rotary Club past president Ramachandra Rao, IMA State president Dr Vijay Kumar, IMA Kothagudem president Dr Krishnaprasad and others were present.
