Karimnagar: Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Thursday assured that the State government would provide all assistance to farmers and people affected by the heavy rains.
Rajender was speaking after visiting the rain-affected areas in Kamalakapur Illandakunta, Jammikunta and Veenavanka mandals in Huzurabad constituency. He also inspected the damaged standing crops and house collapses in the rains. He interacted with farmers and people and sought to know the extent of damage.
Rajender said the unprecedented rain had wreaked havoc on peaceful villages. While standing crops in hundreds of acres were damaged, houses, roads and other properties were also destroyed.
Buds of cotton crop rotted as rain water stagnated in cotton fields, and paddy crops in hundreds of acres had fallen to the ground due to incessant rain coupled with strong wind.
A majority of farmers had cultivated fine variety paddy across the State, the Minister said, adding that roads and houses in many areas were damaged with all water bodies including tanks, check dams and rivulets overflowing.
Strong winds created panic in Sriramulapalli of Kamalapur mandal, where 50 houses were damaged and eight persons received minor injuries.
Stating that the government would respond positively, he promised to provide all assistance to farmers and people and suitable compensation would also be provided for damaged crops and properties.
