Hyderabad: Former Minister Eatela Rajender’s much-trumpeted entry into BJP turned out to be a damp squib affair with not even the saffron party’s president J P Nadda present to welcome him into the party fold, leave alone bigwigs like Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Rajender, who reached New Delhi on Monday morning, joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Interestingly, none of the party seniors including Nadda and Shah were present on the occasion. Political observers believe that this was an ominous start for Rajender in the saffron party.

State BJP president Bandi Sanjay, Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy and other leaders accompanied Rajender for his induction into the party. He is expected to meet Nadda later at his residence.

Speaking after joining the BJP, Rajender said he would work for the cause of Telangana people and would be loyal. “I will strive to strengthen the BJP and take the party to every village in Telangana” he said, and thanked the BJP high command for welcoming him into the party fold.

Sanjay said only BJP was capable of facing TRS Chief and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Telangana. “We welcome Rajender into BJP,” he said.

Former MLA E. Ravinder Reddy, former RTC Union leader Ashwathama Reddy and others also joined BJP.
