Eatala Rajender lodges complaint with NHRC on assault on tribals of Lagacherla
He informed the commission that farmers were subjected to third degree torture in police custody and that the police and ruling party leaders were still intimidating the farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's constituency.
Hyderabad: Malkajgiri BJP MP Eatala Rajender on Tuesday lodged a complaint with National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) against the State police department and Congress government for the physical assault carried on tribals of Lagacherla village of Vikarabad district.
Rajender urged NHRC Chairman to immediately send NHRC teams to Lagacherla and ensure justice to the farmers. He informed the commission that farmers were subjected to third degree torture in police custody and that the police and ruling party leaders were still intimidating the farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s constituency.
On November 12, the Vikarabad district administration had organised a public hearing programme for land acquisition to set up a pharma village at Lagacherla village in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency.
However, the farmers and villagers, who were against parting with their land for the proposed pharma village, boycotted the hearing and when the Vikarabad collector and other officials came to the village the farmers allegedly attacked them. At least 25 persons were arrested in connection with the incident.
