Eatery owner from Asifabad does his bit during pandemic
A native of Asifabad town, Kalewar Rajendra Prasad, who runs a roadside fast food centre is winning plaudits from many for conducting the final rites of Covid victims
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Family members of those who succumb to Covid-19 are forced to dump bodies, fearing they would contract the deadly virus. Some others depend on drivers of private ambulance service to perform the final rites. However, an owner of a roadside fast food centre is winning plaudits from many by conducting the rituals.
A native of Asifabad town, Kalewar Rajendra Prasad runs a fast food centre at Gundi crossroads. He earns around Rs 500 per day by cooking noodles, manchurian and fried rice. He occasionally helps financially weak families by sponsoring wood and vehicle to shift bodies to crematorium.
Rajendra Prasad has shared his mobile number – 99661 23599 – on social media platforms and expressed his willingness to serve the hapless families who are unable to organise the final rites of their loved ones who die of Covid-19. He has conducted the rituals of nine persons so far, bringing respite to those devastated by the disease.
“I was moved by the pitiable plight of certain families that are helpless in conducting the ritual. You can do your bit in this pandemic situation. It gives me utmost satisfaction to extend my support to some families who cannot conduct the ritual. I thank my friends and well-wishers who cooperate me in this noble cause,” Rajendra Prasad told Telangana Today.
Family members of Bhaskar (23), belonging to Gollaguda village in Asifabad mandal, said Rajendra Prasad voluntarily came forward to cremate the body upon learning about their inability to carry out the ritual. “We will be indebted to him forever for coming to our rescue. Performing the ritual has become a Herculean task,” they remarked.
Locals opined that the owner of the fast food centre had set an example to others in serving the needy. They were all praise for him for his humane act.
