Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday announced that the Elevated Bus Rapid Transport System (EBRTS) project will be taken up between KPHB Metro Station and the Kokapet Neopolis at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore. The works of the 22 km stretch are likely to be launched in April or May. Further, the government had also allocated Rs 500 crore for undertaking the Hyderabad Metro Rail connectivity to the Old City during next fiscal.

The Minister informed that the detailed project report (DPR) is ready for development of the airport express between Nanakramguda and the Shamshabad airport with Rs 5,100 crore. An allocation of Rs 377 crore was made to this extent in this budget.

Replying to a volley of questions on Hyderabad development during a discussion on the budget demands in the Assembly here, the Minister explained that Rs 1,200 crore are being spent to supply drinking water to every household in the peripheral areas of Hyderabad. Apart from completing the pending works, efforts are on to take up second phase of Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) in Hyderabad with Rs 3,115 crore.

“As per a study conducted by cab company Ola, the average traffic speed in Hyderabad has increased from 19 kmph in 2015 to 27.1 kmph in 2021 due to the first phase of SRDP works which is highest in the country,” he said. About Rs 2,410 crore will be spent for development of link roads in Hyderabad and surrounding areas during next fiscal. The road development was taken up in an extent of 709 km under Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) which has been enhanced to 811 km in 525 areas across the city.

Rama Rao said works pertaining to Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) were taken up on a warfooting basis to complete pending works before the next monsoon season. He announced that the construction of 64,556 double bedroom houses has been completed in 111 areas which will be handed over to beneficiaries from next month. Under Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, Rs 33 crore will be spent for rennovation of Sardar Mahal and Laad Bazaar. Responding to the issues raised by the legislators, the Minister stated that the Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) application of 5.63 lakh plots in 13,320 layouts were pending with the government and necessary action will be taken based on the orders of the Supreme Court where a case has been pending.
