Devotees performing prayers at a pandal of Lord Ganesh decorated with vegetables and fruits in Mancherial on Thursday.
Mancherial: Members of Vasavi Arya Vyasya Sangham belonging to Mancherial town and Arya Vyasya Yuvajana Sangham are drawing attention of many for their eco-friendly celebrations of Ganesh festival. The association has installed a clay idol of the Lord and decorated it with vegetables and fruits shunning plastic plates and glasses for serving prasadam and drinking water at the pandal which was erected on the premises of the ancient Sri Vishwanatha Swamy temple at the district headquarters.
“To set an example to others, we decided to adopt different methods that protect the environment. We used vegetables and fruits to adorn the venue and the idol of Lord Ganesh. We shifted to paper plates and glasses for serving food and water,” Dontula Mukhesh, president of Vasavi Arya Vyasya Sangham Mancherial town unit told ‘Telangana Today.’

Devotees are making a beeline to the pandal and are appreciating the efforts of the members of the association for eco-friendly worshipping. “When idols made up of plaster of paris (PoP) are worshipped, the organisers are shifting to eco-friendly ways. Everyone should draw inspiration from them,” Katakam Harish, a merchant opined.
Besides, arranging spiritual discourses daily, the association is organising a slew of cultural and musical programmes like Kolatam and concerts at the pandal to enthrall devotees.
