Hyderabad: With the State government deciding to introduce English medium in government schools from the next academic year, the School Education department is holding a mentor orientation programme for teachers who will be trained to be mentors for other teachers in English language teaching skills.
The programme is being offered as part of an English Language Enrichment course in collaboration with Azim Premji University. It will be conducted in residential mode at the Centre for International Programmes on the Osmania University campus here on March 4 and 5.
A total of 75 teachers from government schools including those from residential schools and faculty from DIET will be trained during the two-day programme.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has directed all district educational officers to issue necessary orders for participation of teachers in the programme.
“The idea behind the mentor orientation programme is to prepare teachers as resource persons. Trained teachers will train other government school teachers in English language teaching skills. In view of the government decision to introduce English medium in the government schools, these programmes will help teachers a lot in capacity building. The department will be conducting more such programmes in the days to come,” an official said.
Sub-committee for fee regulation
Meanwhile, the Cabinet sub-committee comprising a Group of Ministers constituted to prepare modalities and guidelines for fee regulation in private educational institutions and introducing English medium in the government is scheduled to meet at the MCR HRD Institute here at 10.30 am on March 4.
The School Education department has already convened a meeting with private schools and parents to take their views on fee regulation. While the Telangana Recognised School Managements Association urged the department to allow a 30 per cent hike in the school fee for the next academic year, the parents wanted the department to regulate the entire school fee, not just the fee hike. These suggestions are likely to be forwarded to the sub-committee.
