Khammam: Students could focus on education by practicing digital fasting for two days a week by staying away from phones and television, suggested noted scholar, Padma Shri awardee Garikapati Narasimha Rao.

Speaking at an orientation programme organised for the first students at Swarna Bharathi Institute of Technology (SBIT) here on Thursday he said that students should learn to respect teachers and parents while making them aware of the importance of parents and teachers.

Narasimha Rao said that one might come under immense pressure due to the burden they could not carry, however any pressure could be overcome by discussing with gurus. While pursuing studies the students should think about the development of the country, he noted and later interacted with the students answering their questions.

The college chairman Gundala Krishna said that at SBIT in addition to maintaining high standards of education, efforts were being made to provide employment opportunities to the students. The college recently obtained NAAC A plus grade and UGC autonomous status. The college recorded 100 percent admissions in the combined Khammam district this academic year.

As many as 15 lakh students come out of engineering college every year, but only 1.5 lakh graduates could get jobs and the rest remain unemployed. Training in coding, reasoning, communication skills and internships for the SBIT students starts from the first year onwards to ensure placements in multinational companies, said the college secretary and correspondent Dr. G Dhatri.

The principal of the college, Dr. G. Rajkumar opined that students should develop interest in the latest technologies like data science and artificial intelligence. Vice principal Dr. K Amit Bindhaj, academic directors Gandham Srinivasa Rao, Dr. AVV Siva Prasad, G Praveen Kumar and others were present.
