Hyderabad: Buoyed with success of UNESCO World Heritage site recognition for Ramappa temple and UNWTO Best Tourism Village award for Pochampally, more efforts would be made to get national and international recognitions for different tourism destinations, said Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud.
The Minister said there were several historic, pre-historic, ancient temples, scenic destinations in Telangana. But the previous governments had not promoted these places nor they developed any new destinations in Telangana, he said while addressing media persons on the World Tourism Day celebrations here on Tuesday.
He said during the last seven years, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has accorded importance to boosting tourism prospects in the State. Accordingly, Buddhavanam, Yadadri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Somasila circuit, Jodeghat circuit, boating facilities, KCR urban Eco Park and others were developed.
These apart, proposals were in advanced stage of taking up river front development projects at River Manair and River Musi and tourism spots at Kaleshwaram, he said.
This year focus would be on introducing Telangana tourism policy. The department was already assessing the policies of other States and target was to come up with the best policy. This apart, measures will be taken up to launch new services and attract more domestic and international tourists, he said.
“The idea was to ensure direct and indirect employment for local people, especially youth in the hospitality and transport sectors,” said Srinivas Goud.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said with three iconic projects, including Buddhavanam, Yadadri Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple and the unveiling of Ramanuja Statue of Equality this year, there would be a paradigm shift in the tourism in the State.
None can imagine the prospects of development, including promotion of temple tourism, which was hitherto confined to Andhra region in the united State, he said.
